SlutWalk Toronto

As I type, Toronto's SlutWalk is well on its way. Starting with speeches from 1:30-2:00 and followed by a walk from the Legislative Building to Toronto Police Headquarters at 40 College Street. The SlutWalk idea sparked as a reaction to comments made by a police officer that victims can be blamed for sexual assault based on how they dress.

"On Jan 24, Const. Michael Sanguinetti told a group of students at York University : 'Women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.' " - Montreal Gazette

Despite the police force's apologies, Sonya Barnett (SlutWalk Co-Founder) believes this is an indicator with respect to issues of "victim-blaming" within the police force. She encourages everyone to come out to support the walk in whatever he/she feels. The can range from fishnets and stilettos to jeans and an old tee shirt.

"Our stance is that slut is an attitude, not a look." -Sonya Barnett

This year's SlutWalk Toronto is expected to have over 3,000 participants. With lots of buzz being generated from its social media that number could increase by many! I encourage you to learn more about the march and check out what has been said by visiting the following links. I hope the event has much success!

Endangered Species: The New & Improved Trojan Men

With the rapidly growing human population increasing the difficulty for endangered plants and animals to survive, custom made condoms were designed to help the cause. Not only do the clever slogans and pictures on the packages create awareness about endangered species, but by using the condom you are doing your part to control the rise in human population.

"Because New Year's Eve is one of the most popular days of the year for condom use, 50 000 of the Endangered Species Condoms were sent to volunteers to hand out this Friday" - The Huffington Post

Since the first Earth Day (1970) the world's population has doubled! At 6.8 billion people (and growing) I think the least we can do is put these clever condoms to some good use. I mean, we are using 50% of Earth's fresh water AND 50% of its landmass.

Personally, I think this is an incredibly creative and brilliant campaign to create a buzz around the harmful effects of overpopulation and overconsumption with respect to these animals and their habitats.

It just goes to show that [safe] sex sells!

According to their official website:

Human overpopulation is the driving force behind the current mass-extinction crisis, endangering:
- 12% of mammals
- 12% of birds
- 31% of reptiles
- 30% of amphibians
- 37% of fish

Endangered Species Condoms in 2010 distributed 350,000 of their condoms in all 50 states as well as Canada, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. To learn more please click here to check out their website.

Shopping Never Felt So Good

Scientists from the University of Westminster conducted a study commissioned by The Institute of Promotional Marketing and came up with the following conclusion:
"Buyers get the same dose of emotional arousal, when they confront special offers and coupon codes in shops as they receive from sexual arousal"
The scientists focused on the regions of the brain responsible for emotional anxiety when the 50 participants went shopping and when they watched an erotic film. The analysis was done on a 10 point scale with rates 5-7 corresponding to the state of sexual stimulation. Shoppers reached these levels when they came across sales, discount coupons, promotions and gifts. To make a long story short- and I quote- "It was found that the discount coupons had the same effect as pornography."

I'm Not Here for the Food...

Image form Toronto Star

The Liberty Village restaurant Mildred's Temple Kitchen is inviting diners to have sex in their bathrooms as a Valentine's weekend promotion. Apparently their unisex bathrooms have already been the setting for some sexcapades so why not capitalize on it for this special weekend celebrating love...

For $55 you can purchase a "love hamper" full of goodies including furry handcuffs, oils, pecan squares, and a decorative birdcage (a little bit of everything it seems).

A maid has been hired to tidy up the bathroom between visits and according to Toronto Public Health, as long as there is no sex in the kitchen and the washroom stays sanitized there will be no fuss.

Mildred's wants their modern bathrooms to be one of the "101 places to have sex before you die" so if you feel like scratching that off your list next weekend I suggest you book a reservation and purchase your "love hamper" today!

PS: What happens to the regular diners who actually just need to go to the bathroom?!
