The $5 Million Dollar Situation

It has been estimated that Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino will make $5 million by 2011! How does it all add up you may question... well for starters he makes almost $60, 000 per episode of Jersey Shore on MTV. That, in combination with being an endorsement junkie, leaves him rolling in the dough.

His endorsements, product lines, and appearance fees (which can range from $15,000 - $50,000) have really extended "The Situation's" 15 minutes of fame. Look for his new Vodka, fitness videos, and even deals with Vitamin Water and Reebok.

The man who pioneered such phenomenal terms such as "GTL" and "Grenades" has now become a multi millionaire. For info on fellow Jersey Shore housemate Pauly D CLICK HERE for another FackSnack J.Shore shout out.

And now I leave you with one of my favourite Situation lines (that is available on YouTube) Enjoy!

The Not So Secret Blog

I wanted to take this time to share with you one of my personal favourite blogs, PostSecret. Created back in January of 2005, Frank Warren randomly disseminated 3,000 self addressed postcards encouraging people to share a secret on it and mail it back. He would leave them on tables, coffee shops, in books, parks, everywhere! It started as an art project but once the art show was over Frank still received more postcards. He then decided to put them online in a blog. Now he has a traveling art show, high trafficked blog, and top selling books!

To this day he receives over 1,000 postcards per week and is amazed and empowered by the courage people have to express their feelings and deepest secrets. The examples I chose are of a light hearted/funny nature, however many are very serious and act as a cleansing tool for many to start a change in their lives.

Frank has teamed up with organizations such as The National Hopeline Network to help those struggling with difficult issues and are writing to PostSecret.

His favourite secret was one he never actually received. He got an email from a woman in Texas saying her secret postcard made her feel so awful that she shredded it and decided to change her life. Frank is a strong believer in the healing power of a sharing a secret and I encourage you to watch the following video for a phenomenal look at some of the pivotal post cards and the increasing popularity of PostSecret. Maybe one day FactSnacks will make be as big!

Too Hot To Handle

Finland's annual world sauna championship had to be called off after Russian competitor Vladimir Ladyzhenskiy was pronounced dead in the finals. the 110°C temperatures for 6 minutes proved to be unbearable for him as well as fellow competitor Timo Kaukonen who is being hospitalized for burns.

Both beat 130 people to get to the finals where they lasted the longest in a sauna 110°C in temperature while water is added every 30 seconds.

Now I may have a personal bias here, seeing as I do not find saunas enjoyable to begin with at a reasonable temperature, but who would want to sign up for this?! Apparently the head of the competition claims all first aid rules are followed...

Looks like a big fail on their part. As a result, the world sauna competition has been shut down for good.

Feeling Adventurous?

Metro had quite the interesting article a while back I would like to share with those ready to spice up their summer vacations. To all the adrenaline junkies that may be a hint crazy. Here are the Top 5 Dangerous Vacation Spots

5. Spain's Running with the Bulls

The name pretty much explains it all. You get to run amongst the bulls and try your best not toget trampled.

Death toll: 15 since 1924 (the first year of statistics)

4. Zambia's White Water Rafting

Not only are the waters crocodile infested, but the rapids have been given nicknames such as "Highway to Hell" and "Stairway to Heaven". EEEEK!

Death Toll: Approx 30/year

3. Switzerland's Ice Climbing

90 degree faces of sheet ice + sub zero temperatures + constant avalanche threats = YIKES

Death Toll: Varies by area

2. Indian Ocean's Sailing

Now I know what you're thinking, sailing is nice... cant be that dangerous. WRONG! Samali pirates hijacked 263 people! They have pledged to die rather than free them.

Death Toll: Unknown...

1. Bolivia's Biking

Coined the "Road of Death", many extreme (slightly insane?) cyclists attempt to take on this 70km trail with "tiny, one-track unmade roads with an unprotected sheer drop of 500 meters"!!!!

Death Toll: Approx 100/year

So there you have it thrill seekers of the world. These vacations pale in comparison to a bungee, skydive or other "extreme events". I think I might just play it safe for my vacation plans and stick to a beach, mojitos, and perhaps snorkeling?

Feeling HOT HOT HOT!

Incase you have not noticed... it's really really ridiculously hot out and I (and my hair) have had about enough of this heat wave. Not only do heat waves irritate people but they also can be very dangerous!
"Despite the common perception that hurricanes and tornadoes are the most dangerous weather event, heat waves kill more Americans than any other type of natural disaster."

The American Meteorological Society claims heat waves kill more than 1,000 people per year. Furthermore, because men sweat more than women, men are more susceptible to heat illness due to dehydration.

To put the icing on the cake, for those of you in urban cities you get to suffer the most! Why you ask? Well..

- Stagnant atmospheric conditions (including heat and moisture) trap pollutants. This adds unhealthy air to hot temperatures which results in possible health problems

- The "urban heat island effect": Asphalt and concrete store heat longer and gradually release heat at night. This means higher nighttime temperatures in urban areas.

So I think it is about time the heat wave chills out and we can resume our lives without planning our days around air conditioned homes and facilities.

You May Outlift Me But I Will Outlast You!

The following post is in response to the following statement which I received via email from a lovely individual who shall remain nameless...

Chairman of the Department of Military Science at the University of Michigan, who conducted a test of Army officer candidates, and found that: The
top 20 percent of women at West Point achieved scores on the Army Physical
Fitness Test equivalent to the bottom 20 percent of male cadets. Only seven
percent of women can meet a score of 60 on the push-up test, while 78 percent
of men exceed it. A 20- to 30-year-old woman has the same aerobic capacity as a 50-year- old man. Only one woman out of 100 could meet a physical standard
achieved by 60 out of 100 men. Woman by nature are smaller and slower, and
have 40% less upper body strength.

Now I realize that females may not be as strong as males BUT there are many [more important] things I and my good friend Cosmopolitan would like to highlight.
CLICK HERE to read the full description of Cosmo's "Things Women Do Better Than Men"
1. We evolve hotter
2. We survive car accidents more often (men 77% more likely to die)
3. We're better at seeking comfort
4. We're more recession proof
5. We graduate college more often (and do it in a more timely fashion!)
6. We eat healthier
7. We have stronger immune systems
8. We live longer
9. We're better managers
10. We invest better

In conclusion, yes it is a wee bit embarrassing that a 20-30 year old woman has the aerobic capacity of a 50 year old man BUT I would rather have a better immune system, invest wisely, and most importantly... be hotter :)
