OUTFOXED: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism

Did you know that in 2004, Rupert Murdoch’s media reached 4.7 billion people! That is ¾ of the population. Here is how some of it broke down:

-U.S. television network reached 280 million people

-Asian satellite network reached 300 million people

-Cable channels reached 300 million homes

-Magazines reached 28 million people

Fox news separated themselves from other networks by having ONE ideological perspective and hammering it home strongly and constantly. When you hear one perspective for long enough, you will start to believe it and follow it. Fox news has a great deal of right-wing bias and it is not hard to see.

Considering their slogan is “Fair & Balanced: We Report You Decide”, Fox news is anything but. In the OUTFOXED documentary former employees of the news network talked about the daily memos that were sent out each morning. It detailed what was to be talked about that day and what was NOT to be touched on. Most importantly, it was told HOW to report the content. In regards to the reporters and their method of delivery, news and commentary blended together. Making them very hard to differentiate.

This was all part of Rupert Murdoch’s master plan. When David Brock, President/CEO of Media Matters America, talked about Murdoch and how he ran Fox he stated the following:

“He wants all news to be opinion because opinion cannot be proven false.”

We as the audience rely on the media to get much of our information. After reading this post I hope you are more aware of where your news is coming from and I encourage you to get your news from a wide variety of outlets. This way you have a better chance of gathering the facts and forming your own opinion.
